Piezo Motor Uppsala AB

PiezoMotor receives prestigious Frost & Sullivan Award

Frost & Sullivan has awarded the Global Electric Motor Technology Innovation of the Year to PiezoMotor AB, an innovative micro-motor producer.

Frost & Sullivan’s motivation for presenting the award was that “PiezoMotor has been able to identify customers’ challenges in the micro-motor market and has taken initiative to improve the
existing piezo motor”.

The motors produced by PiezoMotor achieve greater precision and strength to size ratio compared to today’s conventional electromagnetic motors. Moreover, PiezoMotor has developed patented technology, making its micro-motors more easily utilized in applications on the commercial market.

“Being awarded a Frost & Sullivan Award is a true honor and a token of the hard work everyone at PiezoMotor has done. Our technology has enormous potential and we will continue to work hard toincrease its impact on the micro motor market and its use in applications”, says PiezoMotor’s CEO, Per Oskar Lithell.

Frost & Sullivan is a world leading global growth consulting company that was founded in 1961. They credit companies that have shown exceptional results in a specific field or that have taken a leading market position. The awards are handed out once every year, in 18 different categories. The selection criteria used by Frost & Sullivan add to the importance of the award; if Frost & Sullivan’s analysts should come to the conclusion that their preset criteria has not been met by any company in a given category, the award is not handed out.

PiezoMotor was founded in 1997 by Dr. Mats Bexell and Professor Stefan Johansson at Uppsala University in Sweden. PiezoMotor has since developed several types of micro motors based on Piezotechnology. A number of technological platforms have been developed and successfully patented.

Piezo motor has two standard motors. Piezo LEGS® is a strong nano-precision motor, for example used in high-precision positioning devices and in sensitive medical technology. The exceptionally small PiezoWave™ is designed for mass volume applications such as handheld devices, mobile phone camera auto focus and household medical technology devices. Growing rapidly, the company now
has over 30 employees.

Having supplied motion solutions to several leading multinational companies, PiezoMotor signed important deals with the German companies PMDM (part of the Minebea group) and the FAULHABER Group (known as MicroMo in the U.S.) earlier this year. These two co-operations give PiezoMotor the ability to mass-produce its products and enable the company to offer its technology to more
consumer applications.
