Spectrum Double Win At South Wales Business Awards

The awards were held in partnership with Bridgend County Borough Council through the Bridgend Business Forum, the University of Glamorgan, Business in Focus and Careers Wales.

The Bridgend based industrial laser systems manufacturer won Bridgend Business of the Year and was also voted overall winner of the South Wales Business of the Year prize.

Spectrum was shortlisted with two other companies for Bridgend Business of the Year and the winner of each of the 7 categories on the night was then entered for the overall South Wales Business of the Year award.

Spectrum CEO, Dr Peter Dickinson, and Elaine Hardy, now Business Development Manager but also one of the original employees of the Company when it started in 1989, were in attendance at the awards ceremony and dinner which was hosted in Cowbridge by BBC Wales TV presenter, Sara Edwards.

Spectrum was congratulated on their performance and contribution to the local and Welsh economy over the years.

Dr Peter Dickinson said: "We are really delighted to have won these two awards. We have been in Bridgend since start up over twenty years ago but we probably have a rather low profile here because so much of our business is overseas. In fact 95% of all our business is outside the UK and has been since the 1990s. It is excellent to receive this local recognition to help redress the balance."

"We particularly appreciate all the support we have received from the Welsh Development Agency and then the Welsh Government but also of course from Bridgend Council via their Economic Development Unit."

"The current global economic situation is challenging for everyone but we have demonstrated that with world leading technology, a good team of people and perseverance, we can compete on a global basis."
