Products: Vitl Microplate Heat Sealers

Vitl Life Science Solutions is the laboratory equipment brand of the ITL Group.

Let’s face it; sealing microplates probably isn’t the most exciting part of your job.

That’s why we’ve agonized over the design to make using the VTS and MicroTS as effortless as possible.

To give you maximum flexibility without compromising on sealing quality, the VTS Microplate heat sealer allows you to adjust the heating temperature and define a sealing time (the time that the microplate should be in contact with the heated surface).

In practice, this means that you can quickly and securely seal multiple varieties of microplates over and over again.

Just set a temperature and time and wait for the countdown to finish.

If you don’t need the variability we also offer the MicroTS, a compact, lightweight, fixed-temperature sealer that is more cost-effective for lower throughput applications.

We sell a range of film and foil microplate heat seals too.

Key Features and Tech Specs

User-variable time and temperature settings via an intuitive keypad
Unique, ergonomic lever action, specifically designed to avoid repetitive strain injury
One-time seal with uniform heat distribution meaning there is no need to rotate or reseal
Audible and visual feedback on LED display to ensure consistent, repeatable microplate sealing
Warms up within minutes (170oC <10mins)
Variable voltage (simply changed to either 115V or 230V)

These seals are ideal for (but not limited to) use with the Vitl Variable Temperature Microplate Heat Sealer and VitlMicroTS Compact Microplate Heat Sealer.

A simple, yet effective feature of our seals is a written warning that identifies the correct orientation that the foil needs to be so that it seals to the microplate and isn’t stuck to the sealer.

This makes them virtually fool-proof, even when you’re working under pressure.

Key Features and Tech Specs

Heat seals are supplied in packs of 100 sheets, each measuring 125mm X 80mm
Custom reels of seals for automated heat sealers are available on request

Bringing The Future of Diagnostics to MEDICA 2016

ITL is introducing something big, new and innovative at MEDICA this year.

Our engineers have been working hard behind the scenes to develop ‘the concept car of diagnostics’ – a world of medical possibilities and applications in one device.

We don’t want to reveal too much here, but instead invite you to visit us at the show this November and experience it for yourself.

Designed to evoke and encourage creativity, the device is amorphous enough not to limit clients’ own ideas.

As well as sparking ideas, it also demonstrates ITL’s understanding of the industry and where it’s going next – and gets our clients to think about this too.

Behind The Scenes:
The project was the brainchild of ITL’s ambitious mechanical design engineer Sukie Whitehall and experienced electronics engineer Sam Kuske.

Sukie, Sam and the team realised that although ITL were recognised as a proficient contract developer and manufacturer of medical devices, who get things done and do them well, our creative expertise and innovative approach can be underestimated.

This project aims to turn this on its head and position ITL as a pioneer of leading technologies. We advocate the value of putting creativity at the core of your next device.

Sukie Whitehall says:

“This is a really exciting project for us. It’s been designed to break the mould – the idea is that it can invoke some creativity in our clients and people who might want to work with us in the future. This is a demonstrator of where the market is going – and we believe that when visitors interact with it at the show they can’t help but apply their own ideas and think about future applications.”

She added:

“The project also shows that we have a team of very capable industrial designers and engineers at ITL who can make these ground-breaking ideas a reality. This project is not a product in its own right, but instead an illustration of creative ideas, exploration of possibilities and physical embodiment of future technologies in MedTech and IVD’s.”

The Technology:
This concept encompasses many of the innovations that we expect to become standard features in diagnostic devices of the future. Think bluetooth data transfer, near-field communication (NFC), wireless charging and an associated tablet app.

Ultimately we want visitors to think ‘what can I do with these?’, ‘how can I use this technology?’ and ‘how can this help me and my next product?’

Experience The Future:
To experience the future of diagnostics visit us at MEDICA 2016. As well as interacting with our innovation, you can take part in a competition (and be in with a chance to win free Kentish beer!) and, as always, get first-hand advice from our team.

ITL Upgrades UK Facility to Double PCB Manufacturing Capacity

Innovative manufacturer ITL has launched a high volume PCB manufacturing service for medical devices, after upgrading their UK facility.

ITL, a leading product design and manufacturing company in the medical sector, has recently upgraded their automated surface mount line to a Europlacer iineo II and revamped their entire PCB area.

The investment, that’s seen them double their PCB manufacturing capacity, will improve efficiency and allow more businesses to take advantage of their services.

ITL is one of only a few companies in the UK that manufactures PCBs to ISO 13485 and FDA GMP standards - the required standards for medical device manufacturing.

40 years of industry experience

They has more than 40 years of experience in the industry and have manufactured PCBs for companies such as Bedfont Scientific, Optos Inc. and ThermoFisher Scientific.

The company made its name providing design, manufacturing and after-sales services for medical, diagnostic and laboratory instrumentation and devices and are now looking forward to extending their offering to specialist PCB production.

Serving customers – from start to finish

Tom Cole, ITL’s Chief Executive, said:

“We’re excited to expand our capabilities and offer this service to both existing and new customers. We found that most of our customers want to work with a team who have specialised in medical technology from the start. They like that we offer a complete service from initial conceptualisation right through to prototyping and full scale manufacturing and that we know how important electronics are.”
He added:

“Investing in new technology means that we can open up our highly controlled, efficient PCB manufacturing service to more companies and take on even more ground-breaking projects. It felt like the right time to make this investment and grow our offering.”

Quality assurance from day one

Working with ITL to manufacture PCBs means that quality assurance starts from day one - their PCB manufacturing process is validated in accordance with FDA GMP 21 CFR Part 820 and their automated build and inspection equipment verifies that yields will be high. Where automation is not suitable for certain components, they also have a skilled team of through-hole technicians.

Alex Richardson, ITL’s SMT Team Leader, said:

“As well as investing in state-of-the-art technologies, ITL invests in its people - the specialist knowledge of our team helps us attract and retain our customers. They appreciate the advice and guidance that we can offer them if they need it.”

ITL celebrates double win at KEiBA 2016

The ITL team were in high spirits after being crowned Manufacturing Business of the Year and Large Business of the Year, at Kent’s most prestigious accolade, the Kent Excellence in Business Awards (KEiBA).
On Thursday 23rd June, our team took two tables at the gala dinner and keenly awaited the results.

The manufacturing category was early on, so ITL had one win under our belt before dinner was served. This is the second time we’ve won this title – after being named a winner back in 2014. The category was sponsored by asb law and BIG – Kent Network University of Greenwich.

We were thrilled to regain the title and be recognised for our excellence in the manufacturing industry.

Nearly 600 guests came to the gala dinner at the Kent Showground in Detling on Thursday to see who would win the 15 categories. The ceremony was hosted by KMFM Drivetime presenter Rob Wills and the station’s news editor Nicola Everett.

After a three-course dinner was served, the second half commenced, with much anticipation. The last award of the evening was Large Business of the Year – we were hopeful, but aware we were up against some tough competition.

Grant Thornton UK LLP announced ITL as the category winner and we celebrated our second win of the night – after growing the business organically over the past 39 years, this was an extremely proud moment for the ITL Group.

Tom Cole, said:

"We are over the moon to have won two KEiBA Awards once again. Especially Large Business of the Year which saw us up against some very diverse and strong competition.”

“We have a number of new designs coming to market this year and our order book is strong - things are really looking positive for the future at ITL.”

“Since our double KEiBA win in 2014 local awareness of ITL has rocketed and we have managed to find three excellent apprentices that will be joining us very soon"

The KEiBAs, now in their eighth year, are run by the KM Group and Kent County Council. ITL were given a special mention in the KM Group’s award report, who noted that we successfully “pulled off the double double by scooping two prizes at Kent’s biggest business awards for the second time in three years”.

ITL’s success was being celebrated across the pond too – as our colleagues from US operation, ITL VA, eagerly watched the results via Twitter.

As well as enhancing our profile, awards allow us to reflect on the progress ITL has made over the past year, and re-evaluate our aspirations and goals for the future. This year’s KEiBA success has also inspired us to build on our success and enter more awards, in particular industry and sector specific accolades – here’s to the next chapter, watch this space.

Endomag signs US and Canada distribution deal

ITL client Endomag has signed a distribution deal with Leica Biosystems to bring the Sentimag system to the US and Canada.

Endomag and Devicor Medical Products, a division of Leica Biosystems, have just announced that Devicor Medical Products will be the exclusive distributor of Endomag's Sentimag, magnetic surgical guidance system, in the United States and Canada. This breakthrough technology provides a new standard of care for clinicians and breast cancer patients during surgical procedures.

This agreement greatly expands cancer patients’ access to care as the Sentimag system can be used by all hospitals by eliminating the need for radioactive tracers. The Sentimag system and its implantable magnetic seed, Magseed, guide surgeons to cancerous lesions easily and do not require the use of traditional surgical needle wires or radioactive seeds. Similarly, the Sentimag system and its injectable iron solution, Sienna, is a replacement for the radioactive tracer and blue dye used in sentinel lymph node biopsies.

“We are very excited to be the exclusive distributor of the Sentimag system in the United States and Canada,”
Said Alain de Lambilly, President of Leica Biosystems Tissue Acquisition Solutions business.

“This technology represents a major advancement in breast cancer procedures for clinicians and helps to improve the overall standard of care received by patients everywhere. The Sentimag system fits in perfectly with our product portfolio and aligns with our mission of advancing cancer diagnostics, improving lives.”
The agreement includes the Sentimag system, Magseed and Sienna in both the United States and Canada, pending regulatory approval within those markets. The Sentimag system is approved in the U.S. and received its CE mark approval in 2010 and has already been used in over 14,000 breast care procedures across Europe.

“Leica Biosystems is a leader in breast care, with products like the Mammotome breast biopsy system,”
Said Dr Eric Mayes, CEO of Endomag.

“We are truly thrilled for them to offer our products alongside theirs in the U.S. and Canada. They have a world-class team and genuinely share our passion for improving lives, so are a natural partner to improve the standard of cancer care for everyone, everywhere."
