Thought Technology Launches Mobile Device for Self-Regulation

The TPS sensor is the first in the eVu product line of biomedical-grade devices designed to work wirelessly, via Bluetooth, with Android smartphones and tablets. The TPS sensor stands for triple physiology sensor, which represents the three measurements it collects: temperature, heart rate variability and skin conductance. TPS is capable of simultaneously measuring and providing real-time feedback for three psychophysiological metrics.

The TPS is an ideal tool for health practitioners looking to provide their clients with a portable device to take home or to work. The clients can objectively practice the self-regulation skills learned in the clinic, whenever and wherever they need it. The sensor can be loaned to clients or prescribed for purchase.

The eVu Senz is the first companion app to the TPS, which displays and interprets the biosignal data it receives from the sensor on the smartphone or tablet. The app is free for download from the Google Play store, which is accessible to all Android users. This is the first of multiple apps that will be designed for use with the TPS.

Thought Technology Releases Slow Cortical Potentials Suite for SCP Neurofeedback Training

Thought Technology Releases Slow Cortical Potentials Suite for SCP Neurofeedback Training

Thought Technology's new Slow Cortical Potential (SCP)suite offers a simple and accurate solution for clinicians who want to do specialised brainwave biofeedback using slow cortical potentials.
Thought Technology Ltd. has just released a new software suite, compatible with its BioGraph Infiniti product line, that provides clinicians with the option of offering neurofeedback training using slow cortical potentials.

Training SCPs promotes the voluntary control of cortical activation. Cortical activation is related to an increase of physiological resource allocation and favors such processes as attention and cognitive function. Cortical inhibition, on the other hand, is linked to the reduction of cortical excitation, leading to a calming of mental processes.

The typical frequency range used in neurofeedback is 1-40 Hertz, while SCP training focuses on brainwaves that are slower than 1 Hertz. Reliably extracting slow cortical potentials from raw EEG is a complex science. Each event triggered SCP must be measured with millisecond accuracy and properly controlled for artifacts. Using state-of-the-art technology, the suite ensures that recorded SCP's are of the highest quality.

Thought Technology's Slow Cortical Potentials Suite is based on the pioneering work of Dr. Ute Strehl & Dr. Niels Birbaumer (University of Tübingen , Germany). It includes a fully automated program and offers pre-packaged protocols for each of the three phases of training recommended by Dr. Strehl. A detailed report is created for each session of the program and can be provided to the client to track their progress. It provides research grade accuracy in an affordable and easy-to-use system.

The Slow Cortical Potentials suite is the latest in Thought Technology's line of specialized biofeedback solutions that include Stress Control, Heart Rate Variability, Peak Performance and Rehab.

About Biofeedback and Neurofeedback
Biofeedback is a non-invasive therapeutic approach that involves the measurement of various physiological processes such as heart rate, skin conductance, respiration and muscle activity, while neurofeedback focuses on brainwaves. With these measurements, healthcare professionals can help clients understand the effects thoughts and emotions have on physiology and help them learn strategies to optimize self-regulation responses.

Heart rate variability biofeedback is a powerful method for exercising your client’s cardiovascular system.

Teaching your clients to practice slow regular breathing exercises as often as possible, 10 to 20 minutes a day, will help them learn important self-regulation skills and maintain higher levels of heart rate variability.
• Assess and document your client’s baseline HRV levels by running the 3 step HRV assessment.
• Teach your clients awareness and control of breathing patterns and how breathing influences heart rate.
• Train your clients to use breath control to entrain deep and effective relaxation.
The HRV Suite works with the ProComp 2, ProComp 5, and ProComp Infiniti, a medical grade physiological monitoring device, with easy-to-fasten finger pulse and respiration sensors to provide direct measures of heart rate and breathing.

Thought Technology presents software for Stress Control.

hought Technology Ltd. is pleased to announce their new Stress Control package designed to help clinicians easily manage patient stress levels. Thought Technology's new Stress Control Suite is a set of simple tools, designed to help clinicians do biofeedback therapy with clients, even if they have little or no experience with biofeedback. The tools in the suite assess a client's physiological responses to stressful situations and elucidate any abnormal patterns to teach them to recuperate from stress using biofeedback.

In today’s fast paced world, we are familiar with stress and its negative impact on our health. Most people can identify when they are feeling stressed, but may not be aware of the increased heart and respiration rates, tense muscles, and cold and sweaty hands. However, with the knowledge of these physiological changes comes the power to regulate them.

Thought Technology's Stress Control Suite works by monitoring a client’s arousal and stress levels with only a temperature sensor and a skin conductance sensor. A stress assessment objectively measures how stressed the client becomes and evaluates their ability to recover. The software provides instructions for breathing relaxation, guided relaxation, binaural beat relaxation and free-flow training. Audio and visual feedback is provided to facilitate the training process.

Asked about the need for this type of feedback, Thought Technology Vice President, Lawrence Klein replied, "Lord Kelvin once said that 'If you can't measure it, you can't improve it.' Biofeedback monitoring offers both the clinician and the client a window into the self. Technology has become a huge part of our daily lives and our Stress Control Suite and ProComp2™ physiological monitoring system provides clinicians with a simple way to incorporate the latest technology into their practice."

Z-Score 6 suite for Z-Score assessment and training.

This Z-Score 6 Suite will allow the user to perform z-score assessment and training with in two ways: using the z-score value itself, or using a metric, called the z-score index, which is indicative of the state of a group of z-scores.

The z-score index tells us at a given moment how many of a pre-selected group of z-scores are within a certain threshold range. This threshold range is user-definable and can be modified on-the-fly. The user also has the choice of which z-scores to include, and can do so easily at any time during the session. The suite includes 4 pre-set z-score indices.

These are:
◾z-score index (includes all z-scores)
◾z-score powers index (includes only the power z-scores, for all channels)
◾z-score power ratios index (includes only the power ratio z-scores, for all channels)
◾z-score connectivity index (includes only the coherence, phase and amplitude asymmetry z-scores, for all channel pairs).

The Z-Score 6 Suite includes brief assessment protocols for recording baselines under both eyes open and eyes closed conditions, screens for single z-score training, z-score index training, z-scores with standard EEG band amplitudes in parallel, as well as reports showing session trends and means for all these metrics. Session configurations have also been designed using the very powerful, very practical Quick Start feature which pre-defines all session options and simplifies your clinical work.

Z-Score 6 Suite features:
◾Quick Automatic real-time artifact rejection – an exciting new feature! It’s not just for z-score biofeedback, but it is great for all Neurofeedback, and is the first suite to include this new feature. It allows you to calibrate real time artifact rejection for each individual user, store the user-specific data so it only has to be done once, control artifact source by choosing any combination of electrodes, and easily turn the feature on or off. The settings apply once, and to all EEG data, either feedback (in real time) or statistics (offline review).
◾ Access to all individual z-scores via simple GUI (may be complex in competitors software, however very easy to do in BioGraph Infiniti)
◾New all z-score screen instrument with real time colour change.
◾ Some nice sample sessions to run the screens and also to demonstrate the artifact rejection feature.
◾Quick Start Favorites are pre-defined for you to use. Start a session, review and report with a single click.
◾Quick, easy interface for z-score settings and thresholds. Right click and use graphical interface to select all z-score parameters.
◾Assessment scripts for eyes open and eyes closed baseline recording.
◾Feedback using individual z-scores, any combination of z-scores or z-scores in parallel with standard EEG frequency bands.
◾Benefit from real-time trend graphs to obtain instantaneous measure of progress for all protocols.
◾Standard feedback tools including DVD playback, AVI animations and single and dual screen configuration.
◾Simple reports include means and trends for z-score, z-score metrics and EEG amplitudes for all sessions.

Thought Technology Launches Mobile Device for Self-Regulation

For Immediate Release

MONTREAL, CANADA, Dec. 2016

Thought Technology, Ltd. is proud to announce the release of its eVu TPS® mobile medical device allowing health practitioners to extend biofeedback training outside the clinic and into the home, thereby enhancing the therapeutic efficacy of office training.
The eVu TPS® sensor is an innovative tool that relays the user’s biometric data to the eVu® Senz companion app on an Android smartphone or tablet. The small, portable nature of the device makes it ideal to be loaned or prescribed to clients for training at home or at work. The easy to apply sensor rests on the user’s finger, fastened by an adjustable strap, while the app provides accurate and immediate feedback on stress, focus, relaxation and recovery.
According to Lawrence Klein, Thought Technology’s Board of Director, "Regardless of what type of clientele you treat in your practice, the goal is to provide the tools to better cope with the daily stresses in their lives - whether that means feeling less anxious prior to an exam or mentally preparing to compete in a sport. The eVu TPS® is simple to use and if you have five minutes to spare, you have enough time to practice self-regulation at home." However, he warns not to be deceived by the simple elegance of the design. "First and foremost, the TPS sensor is a robust medical device that accurately monitors three well researched modalities of psychophysiological stress: heart rate variability, skin conductance and skin temperature."
“It’s the first device that I’ve seen that integrates three different physiological signals into one training device, with nice feedback that a lay person can follow. I’m excited - I look forward to using it with students and patients in the future.” said Donald Moss, Ph.D., Dean of the College of Integrative Medicine and Health Sciences, at Saybrook University.
Breathing to de-stress, calm the body, focus the mind, relax and recover have never before been clearer than with the eVu Senz app. Not only does it guide the user with a breathing pacer, it also scores the body’s response to the breathing exercise allowing the user, as well as the clinician, to track progress over time.

"To the best of my knowledge, there is no comparable product either in terms of accuracy or the number of modalities that are monitored that are available in this market niche. I am excited about its potential for increasing the power of what clinicians and optimal performance coaches can achieve with the client." Commented Fred Shaffer, Ph.D. psychologist, and professor of Psychology and former Department Chair at Truman State University.
