Our products

Product category: Instruments and apparatus for ocular diagnosis, Ocular tonometers

Our IOP product

Our medical device is ambulatory, non-invasive and measures the intraocular pressure variations during the day. The device assists in improving :

Glaucoma diagnosis.
Glaucoma treatment monitoring (efficiency follow-up)

This device is composed of :

A disposable contact lens, equipped with a passive sensor
A spectacle frame embedding electronics
A pocket recorder

Examination procedure:

The patient is first equipped by an ophthalmologist with the contact lens and then with the spectacle frame and recorder.

When the monitoring period is over, the patient is invited to return to the medical center in order for the practitioner to analyze the results after he has transferred the data to the computer.

The intraocular pressure (IOP) monitoring

The intraocular pressure (IOP) monitoring is based on cornea deformation measurements. The characteristics of this movement are collected by the lens, then transmitted to the spectacle frame.

After a preliminary analysis of the data by the embedded software, the results are sent by radiofrequency to the pocket recorder.

The data collection can be easily viewed on a computer screen, by plugging the pocket recorder to a computer via a cable.

The project SACSO

The project SACSO is financed by the National Agency for Research (ANR). The goal of this project is to develop generic solutions which allow the electronic systems to monitor the surrounding environment and adapt themselves to different scenarios and requirements.

The product is designed with self adaptative systems which modify their characteristic with the application context.

Our medical device is intended as research vehicle of self-adaptive solutions to environmental and physiological changes.

The project EQUIPIO

The Equipio project  aims to develop a device capable of continuously monitoring the intra-ocular pressure (IOP) for the equidaes, coupled to a telemetry system, to improve the glaucoma treatment in horses and establish correlations between the IOP and other physiological parameters.

This project is supported by the Normandy Region.

Company details

Ophtimalia is a young innovative company. Its mission is to design electronic medical devices in the field of ophthalmology. Using innovative solutions, those devices permit to improve the diagnosis and the treatment of ocular pathologies on humans but also on animals.

The company is strongly supported by the Vision Institute (Institut de la Vision) and is a spin-off from NXP. It was created in September 2009 and its offices are located at the Campus EffiScience in Caen.

Ophtimalia is supported by the French ministry of Research and benefits from tax refund approval for investment in R&D. This grant permits the company to be referenced as a research and development company.
