The fully automatic Somacore Verify is used for taking soft tissue samples. Its intuitive and agile one-handed operation makes this the perfect instrument for taking pinpoint accurate tissue samples. The Somacore Verify is a single-use disposable biopsy instrument. This guarantees efficiency and accuracy when taking high-quality histological soft tissue samples. Its two triggers enable a variety of handling techniques during the biopsy in accordance with the individual clinical case. The biopsy instrument offers a variety of diameters and lengths (14-20 gauge/100-200 mm length). Core biopsy puncture sheaths are available as an option.

Cannula and metal stylet:
The biopsy cannula consists of a very sharp metal stylet with large and small sample notch measuring 20 and 10 mm respectively and an equally sharp-ground outer cannula that ensures an efficient sample taking process. The innovative ”Delay Mode“ allows the tissue to settle in the sample notch and to reposition the cannula if necessary. During the biopsy and after triggering of the system, the soft tissue material is severed by an extremely rapid forward movement of the outer cannula. Consequently, the biopsy material taken is always of a high quality without crush artifacts.

The cannula is extremely sharp due to its faceted grinding and is therefore particularly atraumatic for patients during tissue puncture. The cannula as a whole is extremely rigid and its centimeter markings enable accurate depth penetration. The echogenic needle tip ensures optimum ultrasound visibility throughout the procedure.

The SOMATEX® semi-automatic Biopsy Handy was specifically developed for single and multiple sampling of tissue specimens from soft tissue and organs. Its minimal weight enables precise, target/specific use with convenient one-handed operation. The retrieved tissue material is used for histological examination.

Safe Cut Bone Marrow Puncture Sytem - Bone Marrow Biopsy

The SOMATEX® Safe Cut Bone Marrow Puncture System for collecting histological tissue from the iliac crest is equipped with the specially developed Lock-Wire technology that guarantees sufficient quantity and optimum securing of the biopsy material in the puncture cannula.

Puncture cannula:
The puncture cannula of the Safe Cut Puncture System is made of stainless steel, offers maximum stability and has a tapered tip. The trocar positioned in the puncture cannula is equipped with an extremely sharp diamond-ground point that allows easy penetration of the cortex.

Lock-Wire technology:
Following the puncture, after the biopsy specimen has been cut and adequately checked for length with the aid of the biopsy slide, the Lock-Wire supplied with Safe Cut is inserted into the opening of the grip of the puncture cannula. In the process the sample is separated from the medullary cavity and the puncture cannula can be removed from the iliac crest. The special design of the Lock-Wire thereby ensures perfect securing of the biopsy specimen in the cannula.* In addition, the result complies with the requirements needed for the pathological evaluation in terms of sufficient quantity and with regard to the quality of the sample. The bone marrow sample is guaranteed to be free from squeeze artefacts and other sample impairments. The Lock Wire is made of nitinol.

The simplified handling compared with conventional puncture systems also leads to significantly reduced patient trauma together with the simultaneous reduction in the pressure applied by the operating physician.

Handle:
The ergonomic handle of the Safe Cut Biopsy System allows for optimum pressure application during use. A closure cap additionally supplied with the needle grip helps to prevent blood from leaking from the proximal end of the cannula. Vacuum-supported biopsy collections are supported by a Luer-Lock connector to attach syringes.

The SOMATEX® Duo System is a correctable localisation set for the marking of non-palpable, suspicious breast lesions. The Duo System consists of the puncture cannula and a preloaded marking wire with a distal double arch.

The marking wire is made of a twisted double wire made of Nitinol with a double-arch shape. The tips of the double arches are extremely sharp-bevelled and ensure a firm anchorage in the tissue (double-loop technique) The shape of the double arches allows for the smooth withdrawal of the marking wire of the Duo system into the cannula and its re-release to carry out a positional correction if necessary. Markings on the wire provide the operator with information as to whether the wire is located inside or outside of the cannula. Furthermore, the significantly tighter twisting at the head of the marker wire functions as depth marking and facilitates the intra-operative localisation of findings for the surgeon.

The puncture cannula of the Duo system is equipped with a sharp bevelled edge. Subsequently, the penetration of the skin is particularly atraumatic and patient-friendly. The Duo System Premium consists of the puncture cannula, equipped with an ergonomic handle grip and a preloaded marking wire with a distal double arch.

The head of the marker wire has a fully double-arch shape (double-loop technology), which is extremely sharply bevelled and is therefore able to ensure a firm anchoring in the soft tissue. In order to make a positional correction, if required, the wire can, because of its shape, be easily withdrawn into the cannula and then be released again. Q - Wire System Breast Tissue Wire Marking - Mamma interventions

The Q-Wire System for marking suspect non-palpable breast lesions consists of a localisation wire preloaded in a puncture cannula and a fixation clip. When introduced into the tissue, the tip of the localisation wire forms the letter Q and due to its shape - memory, allows for optimal anchorage in the breast tissue.

A distal depth marker positioned 2cm from the tip indicates the distance from the tumour and allows for a better orientation during surgery.

Intra Uternine Shunt - Antenatal Diagnostics and Therapy

The SOMATEX® Intrauterine Shunt is used for the treatment of foetuses with restricted/impaired urinary outflow in the area of the kidneys, the ureters, the urinary bladder or the urethra. Additional indications are in the treatment of kidney congestion, bladder dysfunction of liquid accumulations in the abdominal cavity or hydrothorax, pleural effusion and large cystic malformations in the lungs.

The intrauterine shunt is a complete set consisting of the shunt, a puncture cannula (18 G / 220 mm), a pre-loading system and an ejector.

The cannula diameter is kept very small, at 18 G, to guarantee minimisation of the risk of rupture of the membranes during puncture.

The shunt itself consists of a fine nitinol gauze, with a self-deploying parasol located at each end. Whereas the inside of the wire mesh of the shunt body is covered with a thin but impermeable silicone coating, the parasols on the left and right of the body are silicone-free. The attachment pieces of both parasols are marked with x-ray markers, which makes it easier to find the shunt if it is still in the mother’s body after she has given birth.
The flexible construction of the shunt offers optimum adaptability to the foetal movements, and the large opening for drawing off the liquid avoids possible clogging with suspended particles.
Compared with conventional pigtail drains, the self-deploying parasols can more easily be placed in the small bladder of the foetus, and in addition they require a pull-out force that is approximately 35% higher.

Lung Marker System - Pulmonary Interventions

The SOMATEX® Lung Marker System is used for preoperative marking of non-palpable intrapulmonary nodules and ensures the targeted detection and identification for tissue resection.

The lung-marker system is a spiral-type wire marking system. The spiral shape of the marker gives the wire the ability to be anchored in the soft tissue of the lung in the best possible manner. The marking wire is made of nitinol and if incorrectly placed, can be retrieved in the cannula, which is still in position, and released in the correct position. The wire system can be placed a short distance from the nodule through an 18 gauge puncture cannula.

Broncho-Cut Expert offers a valuable alternative to conventional surgical biopsy methods, allows for better staging of bronchial carcinomas and improves surgical planning in cases of malignant lymphoma.

Compatibility
The system is compatible for bronchoscopes with a working channel of 2.0 to 2.6 mm diameter.

Depth of penetration
In the case of perpendicular perforation, the puncture needle penetrates the tissue up to a maximum of 12 mm beyond the bronchial wall.

For perforation of the trachea at a sharp angle up to a maximum of 3 mm beyond the mucous membrane.

Guiding catheter
The flexible catheter is radiopaque and distally transparent. The internally located marking allows for easy control of the positioning. The 1200 mm length of the catheter tubing allows for sufficient freedom of movement between the physician and the assistant when performing the procedure.

Puncture needle
The extremely sharp bevelled ground point of the puncture needle allows for particularly atraumatic penetration of the tissue.

Hand grip
The grip part is ergonomically designed and can be reliably locked in two needle positions. The end of the hand grip has a one-way valve that enables connection of conventional syringe types to create a vacuum.

New results Intra Uternine Shunt - Antenatal Diagnostics and Therapy

Treatment of lower urinary tract obstruction (LUTO) with the SOMATEX® Intra Uterine Shunt

Interesting and new results for the SOMATEX® Intra Uterine Shunt have been presented on the 15th World Congress in Fetal Medicine in Mallorca by Professor Geipel from the University of Bonn, Germany.

In this study, the authors concluded that vesicoamniotic shunting < 17+0 weeks with the SOMATEX® Intra Uterine Shunt is feasible and associated with a low rate of early dislocation. Vesicoamniotic shunting offers an improved chance of survival, with low pulmonary morbidity. Risk of progression to renal failure pre- or postnatally is still significant.
