Non-contact and non-constraint bedside safety monitoring systems, Owlsight for social welfare

This product is a bedside safety monitoring system to promote normal and comfortable life for those under care while reducing burden of caretakers. The non-contact, non-constricting sensor and artificial intelligence monitor the entire bed of a patient and reports the state of the patient including alarms in case of danger. Owlsight will provide information for the infrastructure of total community care systems and support the ultra-aging society.

Non-contact respiratory data collecting/analysis systems for adult

These systems collect respiratory data from adults without any contact and invasion to the patient for basic clinical studies. We plan to sell the systems to researchers in order to use the data collected for clinical research of Sleep Apnea Syndrome (SAS), Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD),etc.
In order to diagnose sleep problems, the patient has to wear many sensors all night, which incurs a lot of burden to the patient as well as to the clinical professionals. In light of this, we developed a non-contact system to measure respiratory thorax movements. The system uses an Infra-Red (IR) laser and a laser beam splitter to illuminate the thorax of the patient with IR beams. And a camera with a solid state sensor such as CCD collects the positions of the beams to determine the 3 dimensional position change by triangulation. The data are averaged in all or in part to obtain respiratory waveforms, number of respirations, various respiratory patterns and the surface movements associated with respiration in order to analyze respiration.
At present, prototypes are distributed to researchers to carry out investigation and some of the results were presented at the 7th Respiratory Function Imaging Research Symposium and at the 51st Japan Rehabilitation in Medicine Conference.

Neonatal non-contact respiratory data collection/analysis systems

These systems collect respiratory data from neonates for basic clinical studies without any contact and invasion to the patient . We plan to sell the systems to researchers in order to use the data collected for clinical research of the respiration of neonates.
A type of sensor pasted on skin is harsh to neonate’s sensitive skin and it is difficult to carry out a long term respiratory monitor. In light of this, we developed a system that requires no contact to the patient to measure respiratory thorax movements. The system uses an Infra-Red (IR) laser and a laser beam splitter to illuminate the thorax of the patient with IR beams. A camera with a solid state sensor such as CCD collects the positions of the beams to determine the 3 dimensional position change by triangulation. The data are averaged in all or in part to obtain respiratory waveforms (including number of respiration and amplitude). It is possible to gather and analyze the information regarding physical properties of the lungs, the development status of the central nervous systems, etc.

Optical laryngeal organ motion analysis systems

These systems detect the movements of throat surface to measure the swallowing capability targeted for clinical studies. We plan to sell those systems to researchers who are studying swallowing capability for medical purposes.
For measuring swallowing capability, tests such as VF, CT and VE tests have been used, which cannot be repeatedly used due to x-ray exposure and other issues. In light of this, we developed a non-contact system that requires no contact to the patient to measure laryngeal organ movements. The system uses a laser (visible light) and a laser beam splitter to illuminate the throat of the patient with IR beams, A camera with a solid state sensor such as CCD collects the positions of the beams to determine the 3 dimensional position change by triangulation of the throat when food is swallowed. These time depended data can be used to estimate the time to swallow food.
At present, prototypes are distributed to researchers to carry out investigation and some of the results were presented at the Japan swallowing rehabilitation in medicine conference.

Ideaquest Inc. is a startup company which endeavors to cope with decreasing birthrate and aging population problems by protecting the lives of infants and the elderly. We established our company to introduce respiration monitoring systems, posture discerning systems and swallowing function evaluation systems into the society by using non-contact 3 dimensional information acquiring technology developed by the Nakajima laboratory at Keio University.
Our products use university originated and world first technologies which can detect minute movements of thorax and abdominal areas during breathing and larynx area while swallowing food. Human vision cannot discern these minute movements.Our systems can also monitor the elderly in enclosed rooms such as bedrooms, washrooms and bathrooms for the sudden change in their conditions without the influence of lighting conditions.
The company name, Ideaquest consists of a Greek word, IDEA which means perpetual existence in Plato Philosophy and an English word QUEST. We will continue to search for the best products to protect lives of infants and the elderly.
The company logo is an owl which is considered to have high intelligence and has been respected as a valet of Athena, Greek goddess of wisdom, courage and inspiration. Owl’s eyes have 100 times the sensitivity of human eyes , which enables them to see far and in darkness, and leading to our technologies. Thus, we believe it is ideal to use an owl as our logo.
