Benmor Medical Celebrates 20th Anniversary

2016 marks 20 years since Benmor Medical introduced specialist equipment which would help to improve the care of bariatric patients around the UK.

Aware that there were no companies in the marketplace that could provide products specifically designed for the needs of the larger person and more importantly the public had no knowledge of what was available, Benmor Medical wanted to meet the needs of these people by bringing in a range of beds, chairs, commodes and hoists which would improve the dignity and care that a larger person receives.

Benmor Medical is a leading provider of bariatric care equipment and was the first company in the UK specialising in bariatric patient handling equipment.

“Every bariatric patient will have differing needs ranging from total nursing care or mobile and independent. It is essential that the understanding of challenging patients within the bariatric sector - both mobile and immobile - is considered when choosing the correct equipment”. Peter Staddon, Managing Director

Unique to the market, Benmor Medical design and manufacture innovative products in the UK which help to improve patient care and maintain safety for healthcare professionals.

With branches located in Hampshire, County Durham and Leicestershire, Benmor Medical are well equipped to deliver excellent service nationwide, and provide emergency rentals 24/7.

“Benmor Medical provide a fast and efficient service that enabled us to care for patients in a bed most suitable for their needs” Moving & Handling Co-ordinator.

2016 has also seen the business reach out to its customers in the form of specialised CPD training courses which gives a comprehensive look at finding solutions for working with larger patients. The course gives you the opportunity to learn on a practical level the techniques and skills required to treat a larger patient, which is supported by theoretical learning. The training will focus on protecting staff members from injury while treating overweight patients, as well as ensuring patients are treated with dignity.

Training staff in bariatric patient handling methods and increasing awareness of what equipment and resources are available is essential so they can cope with an ever growing population.

With the NHS spending £15million as a result of patient falls the DEPRIMO FLOOR LEVEL BED has been developed to reduce the risk of injury to patients

Benmor Medical, the leading bariatric equipment specialists that provide high quality equipment and services to the NHS and the community, are expanding their range of beds to support the growing problem of falls in hospitals.

After intense research and using their vast knowledge as equipment specialists, Benmor Medical are supporting falls prevention by developing a bed to reduce the risk of vulnerable patients injuring themselves by falling out of bed.

Falls in hospitals are costing the NHS approximately £15 million per year with 208,000 falls reported in acute hospitals and over 36,000 reported from mental health units. This increases the average hospital stay for patients to 12.3 days longer.

Introducing the DEPRIMO FLOOR LEVEL BED with a 12cm (4.7”) ultra low height it significantly reduces the risk of injury to vulnerable patients who are prone to falling out of bed, increasing patient safety and reducing the costs of in-hospital injury.

The DEPRIMO FLOOR LEVEL BED helps reduce the need for constant supervision and increases patient safety by allowing nursing staff to leave patients at a safe height unsupervised, whilst maintaining patient dignity. Areas of use include: Stroke, Dementia, Huntington’s disease, Parkinson’s, the Elderly, Delirium, Trauma and Acquired brain injury to name a few.

This floor level bed has a height range of 12cm-82cm and is available with crash mats that are placed either side of the bed, enabling patients to simply slide on and off the bed minimising the risk of injury to the patient and carer.

The fully profiling mattress is electrically operated by using either the patient or carer's handset. The patient's handset includes a lock out feature so that it is not used inappropriately.

All of the DEPRIMO FLOOR LEVEL BEDS feature innovative safety rails (patent pending) which can be retracted and stowed under the mattress platform providing greater ease when transferring a patient and easier access for a nurse to treat a patient.

The floor level bed is compliant with the latest EN60601/2/52 medical standard, so NHS staff can be reassured that they are providing their patients and carers with the highest quality equipment.

Benmor Medical strive to deliver the highest levels of service to Hospitals and the Community throughout the UK.

Supporting Bariatric Care with the Aurum width adjustable Bariatric Bed

Benmor Medical are leading bariatric equipment specialists that provide high quality equipment and services to the NHS and the community. Founded in 1996, Benmor Medical were the first company in the UK to specialise in bariatric patient handling equipment.

Located in Hampshire (head office), with depots in County Durham and Leicestershire, Benmor Medical are well equipped to deliver an excellent service throughout the country, providing emergency rentals nationwide 24/7.

In addition to delivery and installation, our driver technicians provide full training on all of our equipment. Our area managers are also well placed to provide advice on the most suitable products to suit your needs.

One of our main products that has been developed over many years of research, is the aurum bariatric bed. The aurum bariatric bed has been built to help with the challenges faced by carers and patients involved in bariatric care. The design of the aurum bariatric bed has been constantly improved over the years, based on feedback from NHS staff and bariatric patients.

Manufactured by Benmor Medical in the UK, the aurum bariatric bed is a hospital bed designed for size and strength. The width adjustment feature on this unique bariatric bed means that it can be transported as a standard bed through the majority of hospital doors, once the mattress platform has been retracted. However, it can accommodate wider patients by extending the mattress platform when in use.

The mattress platform can be adjusted in width by using the ‘pull down’ levers located underneath the mattress frame. The platform is 4 section fully profiling and powered by strong electric actuators that enables the bariatric bed to cope with loads of up to 413kg (65st).

The 4 section profiling platform allows the bed to be placed into a variety of positions, all at the touch of a button by using the handsets included. The positions range from both Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg to the ‘fowler’ position, which allows the aurum bed to adopt a ‘chair like’ appearance, enabling the patient to be seated upright.

An integral weighing system is also available on the bed, this allows a patient to be weighed whilst lying on top of the bed without the need to be lifted onto additional weighing scales. This both saves time and reduces the risk of injury to the carer.

The aurum bed is compliant with the latest EN60601/2/52 medical standard, so NHS staff can be reassured that they are providing their patients and carers with the highest quality equipment.

Benmor Medical strive to deliver the highest levels of service to Hospitals and the Community throughout the UK.
