INCISION Academy

INCISION Academy (https://www.incision.care/)

The INCISION Academy is an online platform that facilitates standardization of surgical care to improve surgical skill and education, by conducting procedures in our Step-by-Step approach.

These procedures are supported by high quality 3D and 2D film clips from the surgeon's point of view, and form an extensive surgical portfolio, that is accessible on every device and suitable in both high- and low-resource settings.

Current problem

There is no comprehensive source where the global standard of surgical procedures are described in a practical, step-by-step manner, which can be accessed anytime and anyplace and where residents can prepare for their individual surgical procedures.
There are huge differences in quality of surgical education, on every scale (ranging from within hospitals to between countries)
The standardized part of surgical education is mostly provided on a general skills level, not on the level of individual procedures. There is a huge lack of surgeons in the world, leading to 5 bln people unable to access surgical care.

INCISION statements and solutions

The world has access to shared knowledge via internet and smartphones, therefore the best surgical knowledge should also be readily available to all surgeons, independent of their location:
Our solution: we make the best usable knowledge globally accessible in an usable content to educate surgeons all around the world
To improve the quality of surgical care, surgical training should be standardized on the level of individual procedures.
Our solution: we standardize procedures, based upon the best available knowledge, through our Step-by-Step approach and by creating a uniform surgical language. This standardization improves the quality of surgical care worldwide.
The world is constantly innovating in the way knowledge is best transferred, therefore the latest technologies should also be used in transferring surgical knowledge.
Our solution: state of the art, integrated learning experience by high quality 2D and 3D films of the procedures with illustrations and anatomic inlays, relevant surgical anatomy and knowledge assessment tests.
The INCISION Network
INCISION learning guides are structured using our standardized Step-by-Step approach. Consistently structuring practical surgical knowledge, using this method, is the first step towards the creation of a uniform surgical language. An international language spoken between trainers and trainees and in a global network of surgeons, which will collectively speed up the development and implementation of surgical innovations.

By sharing surgical skills in our Academy and in a future global network of surgeons, we aim to improve quality and accessibility of surgical care worldwide.
