JOHNSON MEDTECH BRINGS PRECISION MOTION TO MEDICAL DEVICES AT COMPAMED 2008 Demonstrations to Showcase Innovative Components and Subsystems for the Medical Devices Sector

SHELTON, Conn.—November 13, 2008—Johnson Medtech, the medical products group of Johnson Electric, one of the world’s largest providers of motion actuators, today announced that it will feature its innovative motion-based products at COMPAMED 2008. COMPAMED (Düsseldorf Exhibition Centre, November 19 -21, 2008) is the leading international trade fair for the supplier market of the medical manufacturing sector. Johnson Medtech will showcase its cutting-edge motors, pumps, subsystems and subassemblies and their applications for the medical device industry at Hall 8b, Booth E26.

At COMPAMED, Johnson Medtech will display a full range of its motion-based technologies for the medical device industry, including:

• Motors—Johnson Medtech’s comprehensive line of brush and brushless, synchronous and piezo-ceramic motors help manufacturers to overcome such diverse challenges as accurate positioning and motion in surgical assist devices, precise movement within MRI environments and quiet operation of sleep apnea treatment applications.

• Solenoids—Johnson Medtech’s compact solenoids enable machine and process automation functions ranging from the most basic on-off function to extremely complex sequencing. They are ideally suited for medical applications such as medical carts, blood analyzers, instrument sterilizers and pill dispensers.

• Pumps—Small, light and featuring adjustable speed and reverse flow capabilities, Johnson Medtech’s peristaltic and geared pumps are ideally suited for a variety of drug delivery and variable flow applications for medical, pharmaceutical and laboratory applications.

• Subassemblies/Subsystems—Johnson Medtech’s full range of design, rapid prototyping and manufacturing services for medical device subsystems enable companies to reduce supply chain complexity and get products to market by up to 50 percent faster. Displays will feature a variety of subassemblies and subsystems, including robotic surgical assist, multi-axis stages for precision lens positioning in microscopes, and long-life switch assemblies for medical applications.

“The medical industry is demanding smaller, more precise, less invasive and more portable devices, and Johnson Medtech continues to meet these needs through its motion-based components and subsystems,” said Jim Dick, senior vice president of Johnson Electric. “We look forward to showing COMPAMED attendees how they can leverage these innovative technologies and benefit from the competitive edge that Johnson Medtech provides to its customers.”
