Depending on the area of application, medical products have to meet demanding criteria, for example in terms of biocompatibility and durability. The material therefore plays a key role in product development. But new manufacturing processes are also a driver of innovation. At COMPAMED 2022 one could experience many innovations on the subject of materials and their processing.
The joint pavilion by the IVAM Microtechnology Network with the Product Market “High-tech for Medical Devices”, was located in Hall 8a and focused on the innovations from key technologies like microtechnology, nanotechnology, photonics or advanced materials.
Plastics are frequently used in medical technology and are almost indispensable. Find out what makes them so special and what the manufacturers have brought to COMPAMED 2022 in our report!
Exhibitor interview COMPAMED 2022
Materials, technology, solutions
As part of an international company, Mitsubishi Chemical Europe takes advantage of its global presence to offer a comprehensive range of high-performance materials. We ask in our video interview what makes them unique and how the company keeps pace with modern production processes.
Interview: 4D printing
Thermal energy shrinks printed objects
Unlike 3D printing, 4D production features the added dimension of time. The technology uses shape memory polymers to print objects that can change their shape once at a later point in time. All it takes is their exposure to heat.
A practical presentation of the latest developments throughout the process chain. Expert talked focus on mechanical and electronic components, innovative materials, manufacturing processes, manufacturing services of all kinds, design and usability aspects and quality assurance. Further main topics were additive manufacturing, electronics, regulatory affairs and cyber security. Power presentations on innovative new markets rounded off the exciting program.
Focal topics: Manufacturing / recent situation of medical technology – Monday, 14 November 2022
1:30 - 2:00 p.m. Gain the additive advantage with polymers and printers designed specifically for the serial production of implants and medical instruments Marc Dietlin, 3D Systems GmbH
3:30 – 4:00 p.m. Advanced bio circular polymers for sustainable medical devices Fidele Nizeyimana, Arkema
4:00 – 4:30 p.m. All glass package for next generation smart implantable devices Anti Pelltonen, Schott
A wide range of different materials are used in medical technology. Some of them are considered "smart materials". They are given this name because of various properties that are added to them in the manufacturing process. You can find out what these can be in the interviews in our Special in May.
