MEDICA and COMPAMED 2026: From innovation to implementation – new topics, formats and networks for the healthcare of the future

The healthcare industry is under growing pressure to translate innovation into care more quickly and consistently. This is precisely where MEDICA and COMPAMED 2026 come in: as platforms that not only reflect trends but also enable concrete implementation. With new themes, programme formats and targeted networking opportunities, both events are driving forward the transformation process launched in 2025. The aim is to align MEDICA and COMPAMED, as leading international community platforms, even more closely with the demands of an increasingly interconnected, dynamic and decision-driven market.

At the heart of this is a clear restructuring of content. MEDICA 2026 divides its offering into five precisely defined thematic areas – ranging from clinical diagnostics and therapeutic technologies, through digital medicine, data and artificial intelligence, to integrated care, healthcare infrastructure, and education and global health. In doing so, the event is consistently geared towards real-world clinical application scenarios and the concrete needs of healthcare provision.

“The further development of the thematic structure and the programme is based directly on feedback from our community. We have analyzed very carefully which content and formats offer the greatest added value for our target groups,” explains Carmen Berger, who has been responsible for MEDICA and COMPAMED at Messe Düsseldorf since October 2025.

This approach is also reflected in the hall layout. In future, exhibitors will be positioned more closely in line with specific clinical requirements and application scenarios. At the same time, the quality and consistency of content at shared stands will be specifically enhanced to ensure clear guidance for visitors.

New programme initiatives focus specifically on exchange and decision-making relevance

Conferences, specialist forums and special exhibitions remain central components of the live programme – but are being consistently developed and supplemented by new formats that are more strongly geared towards interaction, best practices and concrete solutions.

A key new highlight is the Wearable Technologies Conference Europe, which will take place in future as part of MEDICA in Düsseldorf. Together with the established Wearable Technologies Show, it reinforces a field that is becoming increasingly important for the future of connected healthcare – from prevention and chronic disease management to telemedical care.

“Wearables play a key role in an increasingly data-driven and patient-centred care system. With the conference, alongside the innovations at the WT Show, we are creating a platform for best practices, professional exchange and new partnerships,” emphasizes Christian Stammel, CEO of Wearable Technologies AG.

The 1st German Health Resilience Conference marks the first systematic address of another highly relevant topic for the future. The focus is on the resilience of healthcare systems and concrete strategies for dealing with crises and stressful situations – from cyber-resilience to disaster management and stable supply chains.

“Resilience has long since become a central management task. Our aim is to bring together decision-makers from different sectors and discuss concrete solutions,” says Carmen Berger.

Established formats are also being specifically developed further. The special exhibition “Hospital of the Future” will in future map the entire clinical patient workflow within a fully integrated system. At the same time, the MEDICA MEDICINE + SPORTS CONFERENCE is moving closer to the heart of the exhibition and will be integrated with the MEDICA SPORTS HUB to create a closer link between scientific exchange and the practical application of innovations.

COMPAMED strengthens the technological basis for innovation

Running parallel to MEDICA, COMPAMED focuses on the technological foundations of medical technology. As the leading platform for the supply industry, it brings together expertise in the fields of manufacturing technologies, components, materials and surface solutions.

Furthermore, topics such as regulation, market access, quality assurance, as well as software, digitalization and cyber security are gaining further importance – both in the exhibition area and in the professional programme.

Together, MEDICA and COMPAMED are unique worldwide: they collectively map the entire MedTech ecosystem – from the initial idea through development and production to application in healthcare. This close integration will be further strengthened in 2026, including through the integration of COMPAMED expertise into selected MEDICA formats such as the MEDICA TECH FORUM.

Networking is becoming more targeted, relevant and decision-oriented

There is a particular focus on formats that specifically promote exchange at the decision-making level. Plans include “Women in Health by MEDICA”, curated roundtables for political and local decision-makers, an Investors Lounge for start-ups adjacent to the MEDICA START-UP PARK (with more than 100 expected participants), as well as exclusive masterclass meetings and guided tours with limited participant numbers.

The aim is not only to facilitate contacts, but also to initiate concrete collaborations and strategic initiatives.

The infrastructure is also evolving

In parallel with the transformation of the event’s content, the exhibition grounds are also being continuously modernized. The comprehensive refurbishment of Hall 9, the modernization of the North Entrance and new conference rooms are part of a long-term master plan. This is complemented by the construction of a new headquarters for Messe Düsseldorf – whilst operations continue. Last year, MEDICA and COMPAMED attracted around 5,300 exhibiting companies from 70 nations and 78,000 trade visitors from 165 countries.

MEDICA 2026 and COMPAMED 2026 will take place from 16 to 19 November at the exhibition centre in Düsseldorf.
