Stratasys to present 3D Printing in Medicine at COMPAMED / MEDICA 2018
Interview with Katharina Augsten, Healthcare Sales Manager EMEA with Stratasys GmbH and the first speaker at the 3D fab+print Conference who on November 12 will talk about incorporating 3D printing / Additive Manufacturing in the clinical practice.
12.11.2018
Stratasys’ Additive Manufacturing Solutions help healthcare professionals to create a new level of patient treatment by having more diagnostic visibility. 3D printing can improve patient care whilst reducing operational costs and increasing efficiency within the clinical environment at the same time.
Katharina Augsten is Healthcare Sales Manager EMEA at Stratasys.
In the interview with 3Dfab+print Katharina Augsten descibes her role within the company.
When did you first learn about additive manufacturing for medical applications?
I had heard of it before but wasn’t so deeply involved. It was when I started working at Stratasys that I learned all about it. I was very impressed by how we can support the healthcare market, and especially how the treatment of patients can be improved.
What do you hope to establish with presenting on November 12 in Düsseldorf?
Bringing the knowledge to the doctors. And I don’t mean just knowledge about 3D printers, but knowledge about how pre-surgical planning on 3D printed models can help in lowering the risk for patients and increasing safety for the surgeons.
What is in your opinion the greatest challenge for medical AM?
I think the biggest challenge is the fear of using a new technology because that would switch habits, changes the view on things, patients, medical cases, and operations. But I can only say: the most dangerous phrase in the language is “we’ve always done it this way”.
The interview was conducted by Jolanda Heunen.
