Rolling biosensors

It's inexpensive and it's fast: the new manufacturing process for biosensors from Fraunhofer IBMT. Thanks to roll-to-roll printing and graphene ink, this is not only visually reminiscent of newspaper printing. It is also similarly suitable for mass production. 3D printing is considered the production technology of the future. But inkjet printing also has a lot of potential. Not only does it require little effort, it is also extremely inexpensive - especially when printing on commercially available materials. This train of thought led Graz researchers to print electrodes that are particularly thin, flexible and skin-friendly.

When researchers want to reproduce the effects of specific substances on the human body in the laboratory, they use cell-based biosensors. But their production is expensive and intricate. As part of the BIOGRAPHY project, a brand-new manufacturing method was developed right at the Fraunhofer-Institute for Biomedical Engineering.
