The use of biocompatible materials in medical technology prevents problems wherever the surface of medical devices comes into contact with body tissue or fluids: for example, they prevent or inhibit negative reactions from the body and immune system, or they support healing while being gradually absorbed by the body. Manufacturers of medical products such as implants need to keep up to date and follow new developments in this field – COMPAMED is the ideal place to do this. Our camera team spoke to two manufacturers of biocompatible materials during COMPAMED 2024.
Marc Knebel from Evonik talks about the product lines his company is presenting at COMPAMED: one bioresorbable and one biostable. He also explains how and for what they can be used for and how manufacturers benefit from Evonik's advice during the approval process.
Erik Kroeze from Corbion explains how the properties of a material can be adapted to the requirements of the respective medical device and why this is beneficial for patients.
