Clarius Mobile Health is showcasing multiple imaging modes on the Clarius C3 Wireless Ultrasound Scanner at Medica 2016 next week. The multipurpose handheld ultrasound scanner uniquely operates as a standard convex array probe to image the abdomen and lungs, and a virtual phased array probe for cardiac imaging.
“We’ve spoken to many physicians who want one multipurpose ultrasound device to carry with them to quickly scan their patients,” said Laurent Pelissier, Chairman and CEO of Clarius Mobile Health. “Our C3 Scanner is designed to view all parts of the patient’s torso, including the heart. There’s no need to change transducers in the middle of an exam or to compromise image performance for access. The convex array provides outstanding resolution for abdominal and lung images. The cardiac option activates the virtual phased array mode to enable cardiac imaging at high frame rates through the ribs.”
Clarius ultrasound scanners are wireless and work with a mobile app that is compatible with most iOS and Android smart devices available today. In addition to the multipurpose Clarius C3, the company will offer the Clarius L7 linear scanner. With automated adjustments and an intuitive interface, the personal ultrasound devices are designed to be carried around for quick exams and to guide procedures such as nerve blocks and targeted injections.
“With no cords and portable size, the Clarius device will be very easy to bring to the bedside and to go from one patient to the next,” said Dr. Shane Arishenkoff, an internal medicine physician in Vancouver, BC. “I’m impressed with the ability to use the convex transducer as a phased array to capture very good cardiac images. It’s convenient to use one transducer to scan the abdomen, lungs and the heart.”
According to Pelissier, the Clarius scanners are designed and manufactured from the ground up to offer the unique flexibility of convex and sector imaging on the same device. Pending regulatory clearance from the FDA, CE and Health Canada, Clarius Mobile Health expects to offer several handheld ultrasound scanners for the price of a single traditional compact system. The company received ISO certification in May 2016.
