Biomarker for DNA oxidation: 8-OHdG

8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) is a product of oxidatively damaged DNA formed by hydroxy radical, singlet oxygen and direct photodynamic action.
Among four DNA bases adenine(A), guanine (G), thymine(T) and cytosine(C), guanine is the most susceptible because of its lowest redox potential. 8-OHdG is known to induce G => T transversion, which may cause cancer. 8-OHdG is formed in the living cells and is excreted into serum, and finally can be detected in urine samples. 8-OHdG is stable and sensitive biomarker for evaluation of DNA damage and oxidative stress inside living bodies.

JaICA have developed anti 8-OHdG monoclonal antibody (clone N45.1) highly specific for DNA damage. This monoclonal antibody does not cross react with RNA oxidation products such as 8-hydroxy-guanine and 8-hydroxy-guanosine.

2000 Registered as a satellite center of the Trace Element Institute for UNESCO.

2013 Released trace elements assay kits.(Iron, Copper, Zinc etc.)

The Japan Institute for the Control of Aging is engaged in the kit reagent business and assay service business.
In the kit reagent business, our Institute develops, manufactures, and sells research reagents used for measuring oxidative stress markers.
In addition, our Institute's monoclonal antibodies and ELISA kits used for detecting products of oxidative damage caused by reactive oxygen species are highly evaluated by customers worldwide.
The 8-OHdG Check (8-OHdG ELISA kit), the main product of the Institute, was awarded the Ikeda Special Prize of the Innovation Grand Prix in 1999 and a prize from the Minister of Science and Technology Agency in 2000.
