Femoral plugs

Medical Group offers a range of resorbable femoral plugs used during the insertion of a cemented hip prosthesis. These intra medullary plugs are designed to delimit the working area, to stop cement progression and to facilitate its insertion under pressure during the implant introduction of the cemented hip.

  • One range of femoral plug is composed of porcine gelatin material very rapidly degraded in the body
  • The other one consists of intra medullary plugs composed of lactic acid, synthetic materials, its resorption time is longer
The femoral plug shape has been optimized according to the flexibility of material to gain at the same time guidance during the insertion of the product and an excellent stability in final position.

Medicalgroup has developed the instruments associated with each product. All products are CE marked on behalf of our clients.

Generic hip implant line

Our generic hip implant line was developed based on proven and recognized designs. MedicalGroup manufactures generic hip implants for its customers, who then register the line under their brand names through the OEM process.

Our generic hip implant line includes coated and cemented femoral stems, femoral heads (stainless steel, CoCr and ceramic), cemented cup in PE, simple and double mobility cups compatible with our different liners (standard or reticuled), and bipolar cup. Instruments are available.

Several steps take place in the manufacturing of generic hip implants involving different capabilities:

  • Forging, machining and polishing of stems.
  • Machining of heads and other components.
  • Plasma spray coating of stems and cups for coated products, Metallic (titanium) and / or ceramic (hydroxyapatite) powders are commonly used as they enhance bone growth to the implant. A double layer coating combines the osteogenerative properties of hydroxyapatite with the mechanical anchor of the titanium coating roughness. Once the hydroxyapatite is resorbed, the metallic coating ensures the osteointegration of the implant and the direct growth of the implant into the coating roughness.
  • Implants are then decontaminated, cleaned and individually packaged. Packaging will ensure sterilization and physical protection of the implants up to its shelf life.
  • Finally, implants are gamma sterilized.

Titanium powder

Once applied by plasma spray, titanium powder becomes a coating with multiple properties for orthopedic applications such as mechanical, porosity and corrosion resistance.

Within weeks, a bone grip will develop on the titanium coating porosities.
Pure and allied titanium powders are used.
Pure titanium powder CPTi has several advantages with variable quantities of dissolved oxygen and iron.
Its mechanical resistance increases with the oxygen content and can vary dramatically based on the different transformation processes.
Titanium powder can also be allied, TA6V with 6% of aluminum and 4% of vanadium.
The advantage of allied titanium is a net improvement of fatigue limits, up to 50%.
Our titanium powders are manufactured according to your specifications such as shape, composition and particle size.

Manufacturing of titanium powders are:

  • Extraction of titanium ore,
  • Purification by hydrogen,
  • Vacuum grinding (angular shape) or atomization (spherical),
  • Sieving validated by IQ, OQ, PQ to get the right particle size.
  •  Chemical analysis by ICP/AES opticale mission spectrometry to confirm the powder purity level (ASTM 1580-12).
  • Particle size analysis by sieving (ASTM B214) to measure the particle size distribution.
  • Double packaging (vacuum pouch and container), meeting shipping and labeling standards (67/548/CEE).
