SafeDon Glove Dispensing System Cuts Risk of Cross Infection and Reduces Waste

A new dispensing system for examination gloves which can reduce cross infection by up to 96% is being exhibited at the Medica Trade Fair, Dusseldorf.1

SafeDon, an innovation from Polyco Healthline, has revolutionised the way examination gloves are dispensed. SafeDon reduces the risk of cross contamination from gloves by dispensing them cuff first. This stops users touching the glove’s most critical surfaces: thumb, fingers and palm and therefore spreading bacteria. Because they are dispensed one at a time, potential contamination of other gloves in the box is prevented. The SafeDon dispensing units are wall mounted ensuring that the glove box is kept away from any infected surfaces.

As well as minimising cross-infection, SafeDon also reduces glove wastage by up to 10% as it stops gloves sticking together, preventing more than one glove coming out of the box and spilling out.

Furthermore, SafeDon reduces environmental impacts compared to traditionally dispensed examination gloves. The gloves are packed by robotic hands, meaning more can be packed into a smaller space. Despite being stuffed as tightly as possible, traditional glove dispensers still contain 50% air. SafeDon’s gloves are folded and make use of all available space within the packaging. Therefore, while a standard shipping container transports 2.2 million disposable gloves, the same container can hold 3.5 million SafeDon gloves. Fewer containers result in reduced transport costs and fewer carbon miles impacting the environment.

SafeDon products include:

  • The GX894 - a powder-free, blue nitrile examination glove which takes advantage of SafeDon technology. Available in five sizes, its dual-aperture dispenser retains a traditional glove box’s dimensions. The product will fit into any standard wall mount, but with the benefits of cuff-first dispensing. As an introduction to the SafeDon system, the GX894 offers a low barrier to entry.
  • SafeDon GX994 and GX978 eschew the cardboard dispenser altogether. Instead, the powder-free nitrile gloves are packed in recycled polythene, in stacks of 100 or 250 gloves respectively to further reduce waste. These are boxed in a spring-loaded holder (the GE/SLG), which fits inside common healthcare wall mounts. It can be sterilised or autoclaved and offers multi-size dispensing and a fast refill mechanism.
Jason Prichard, Director of Business Development & Strategy at Polyco Healthline, said: “The SafeDon system provides an effective infection control solution for use in environments where hygiene is essential.

From the first to the last glove, the quality of delivery and the maintenance of cleanliness is assured.”

SafeDon is supplied by Polyco Healthline, is the UK’s largest provider of disposable gloves, workwear and polythene bags. The company has partnered with Colchester Hospital Trust to trial the SafeDon dispensing system. The Trust’s Clinical Evaluation team assesses everyday clinical products that support quality, safety and value in the NHS.

About us

Company details

With a combined 85 years' experience at the forefront of the glove and protective workwear industry, HPC Healthline and Polyco have joined forces, creating a new company group: Polyco Healthline.

Polyco Healthline, the largest gloves provider to the UK medical sector, developed the next generation of gloves due to concerns over hospital acquired infections.

Polyco Healthline presents Safedon "cuff1st" gloves and aprons dispensing systems. Proven to reduce cross contamination by 96%, product wastage and storage by up to 50%. Safedon products are revolutionising infection control and healthcare industries.

We are also excited to unveil our brand new surgical pulp range: Safetex.

Approved for use in the theatre, these utensils are unique. Despite being single use, they can be autoclaved and disposed of through maceration and traditional disposal methods. By contrast, single use plastic trays cannot be autoclaved.
