Collagen Cell Carrier® (CCC) for implantation of therapeutic cells
The Collagen Cell Carrier (CCC) has been developed for implantology as a biocompatible and suturable vehicle to transfer, fix and support therapeutic cells at the recipient tissue.
The membrane of highly native and pure collagen fibers offers a natural scaffold for cells on which they organize to a cell complex prior to implantation. It then enables easy handling of the cell implant and can be sutured directly to the recipient tissue to immobilize the cells at the desired place. The in vivo-like matrix improves survival and targeted effect of the implanted cells enhancing efficiency and reducing costs of the therapy.
Though very thin (20 µm), thanks to the compact network of long fibers the membrane is remarkably strong without the need of extra chemical cross-linking thus ensuring high biocompatibility and biodegradability proven in several independent animal studies. Due to its high elasticity the CCC adheres snuggly even to moving organs so that the therapeutic cells have tight contact to the damaged tissue.
As the basis of a stem cell loaded Cardiopatch, the Collagen Cell Carrier will enter clinical trials at the end of 2018.
