MIB Simulator 4019: multiaxial testing system for static and low cycle fatigue (LCF) testing

An innovative and sophisticated testing system

MIB Simulator 4019 is specifically tailored to test orthopaedic prostheses and medical implants, unlike all other existing machines, which are multifunctional and not suitable for the aforementioned tests due to their redundant architecture, composed of more than three axes. MIB 4.0 Simulator 4019 has 2 axes, which test axial load and torsion. Moreover, by 2020, we are launching on the market a more sophisticated simulator with three axes, which will be able to test bending too.

Electric actuation and its several advantages

MIB Simulator 4019 has electric actuators instead of hydraulic actuators. Electric actuators offer significant advantages.
Firstly, they allow to perform more accurate measurements and require less mechanical maintenance.
Secondly, thanks to the use of electric actuators, there is no fluid leakage. Thus, the production department is cleaner.
Thirdly, unlike any other existing simulator, this machine does not need any refrigeration system. As a result, it is smaller and easier to install.

A wide angle of view

Lastly, the angle of view of  MIB Simulator 4019 is far wider than that of the other existing machines. More precisely, it is 180 °. This allows to view the sample from any side.

Mechatronics in Bologna 4.0 (MIB 4.0) is a company network composed of 4 enterprises based in Bologna, namely Lamipress S.r.l., which is the leading firm of the network, Tech S.r.l., Rubbi S.r.l. and CAT Progetti S.r.l.

Since 2006, MIB 4.0 network has developed production lines and automation solutions for many industries. The main ones are the medical and biomedical industry, electromechanics and electronics, industrial automation, robotics,  mechatronics and vision systems.

Since the end of 2017, we have been working on an innovative project together with the Industrial Engineering Faculty of the University of Bologna. After extensive market research, we apprehended that there was still no equipment on the market that could be used to test orthopaedic prostheses and medical implants. For this reason, we decided to design and manufacture a sophisticated machine that could meet this need: MIB Simulator 4019.
This machine is meant to test
- hip and knee prostheses,
- spinal systems, including cages and spinal implants,
- osteosynthesis systems.

Therefore, we aim to establish long-term partnerships with OEMs, more precisely producers of protheses and medical implants, organisations and companies providing inspection and product certification services, research centres and university faculties of industrial engineering, biomechanics and mechanical engineering.
