COVID-19 ANTIGEN RAPID TEST

COVID-19 ANTIGEN RAPID TEST is a rapid assay for the qualitative detection of SARS-CoV-2 antigens present in the human nasopharynx. It is intended to be used by healthcare professionals as a first approach in the diagnosis of COVID-19 - CE certified for professional in vitro diagnostic use only.

COVID-19 ANTIGEN RAPID TEST is a rapid membrane-based lateral flow immunoassay for the qualitative detection of SARS-CoV-2 antigens in human nasopharyngeal swab specimens. Pathogen-specific antigens can be used as diagnostic markers to detect the current infection status of an individual. SARS-CoV-2, as all Coronaviruses, has several known antigens, including its Nucleocapsid phosphoprotein and Spike glycoprotein, the latter being the visible protrusions on its surface and the main protein able to attack the host cells in human body.

WHY THE NEED FOR A COVID-19 ANTIGEN TEST?
With the increase of COVID-19 cases in most parts of the world, there is a growing need for diagnostic tests that are accurate and reliable, easy to use and with quick turnaround time, in order to allow frequent testing. Tests, having such characteristics and similar to the PCR technique, have been developed, in order to facilitate the diagnosis and traceability of newly infected people: the antigen tests. Since the transmission of SARS-CoV-2 virus seems to occur days after exposure to it, when the viral load reaches its peak, the frequency of testing is increasingly important in order to slow down the spread of the pandemic. An effective surveillance approach cannot be performed using the standard PCR technique because, after collection, PCR samples usually require transport to specialised laboratories run by experts, this in turn requires one or more days for the results, creates a bottleneck and is expensive. This is why the need for highly sensitive and specific devices such as the antigen tests, which open the door to effective population-wide monitoring.

HOW TO USE IT
1) Insert the sterile swab through the nostril parallel to the palate, until the contact with the nasopharynx. Gently rub and roll the swab and take it out from the nasal cavity.
2) Insert the swab into the provided extraction buffer and rotate it for about 10 seconds. Remove the swab while squeezing the sides of the tube in order to extract as much liquid as possible.
3) Add 3 drops of the extracted specimen to the sample well. Wait 15 minutes and read the results.

COVID-19 IgG/IgM RAPID TEST

COVID-19 IgG/IgM RAPID TEST is a rapid assay for the qualitative detection of IgG and IgM antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 in human whole blood, serum or plasma specimens. It is intended to be used by healthcare professionals as a first approach in the diagnosis of COVID-19 - CE cerified for professional in vitro diagnostic use only.

COVID-19 IgG/IgM RAPID TEST
is a qualitative membrane based lateral flow immunochromatographic assay for the detection of Immunoglobulin G (IgG) and Immunoglobulin M (IgM) against SARS-CoV-2 in whole blood, serum or plasma specimens. Immunoglobulins, or antibodies, are proteins produced by specific immune cells in response to bacteria, viruses, microorganisms and other substances recognized by the body as foreign antigens. There are five classes of immunoglobulins, of which IgM are generally produced as the body’s first response to a new infection, providing short-term protection. The concentration of these antibodies increases for a few weeks and then decreases at the end of the infection. IgG, on the other hand, account for about 70 80% of immunoglobulins in the blood and they are generally produced later than the IgM. IgG levels usually tend to increase for a few weeks and then stabilise. The body is able to remember the different IgG levels, which can then be reproduced at each exposure to the same antigen.

WHY THE NEED FOR A COVID-19 SEROLOGICAL TEST?
The use of a serological test allows to identify individuals possibly exposed to the virus and to take initial precautionary isolation measures in order to reduce further spread of the virus itself. In infected individuals the incubation period can vary between 1 and 14 days, with a prevalence of 3 to 7 days, after which the first symptoms begin to appear. Sethuraman et al. show the trend over time in the detection of diagnostic tests for SARS-CoV-2. In case of nasopharyngeal swab, the detection increases after the onset of the first symptoms, reaching a peak of detection in the first week after the onset of symptoms and then decreases steadily. IgM and IgG antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 appear in the blood of infected individuals from a few days up to 2 weeks after these symptoms and, while IgM levels decrease after the end of the infection, IgG levels remain high and detectable. For this reason, these tests are useful for:
a) help the diagnosis of late symptomatic cases, as a support for molecular testing (nasopharyngeal swabs followed by PCR tests)
b) screen asymptomatic individuals who may have recently been exposed to the virus
c) assist in seroprevalence investigations to define population exposure levels.

2) Deposit the blood sample into the sample well of the cassette.

SPERM TEST

SPERM TEST is a CE certified self-test for in vitro qualitative estimation of sperm concentration in human semen.

SPERM TEST is biochemical assay for in vitro qualitative estimation of sperm concentration in human semen. Sperm cells are trapped on the first surface layer of the membrane, while a staining solution is used to dye sperm cells. The darker is the colour of well A, the higher is the sperm concentration. If the colour of well A is lighter than the standard colour of reference well B, it means that the concentration of sperm is less than 15 million/mL. If the colour of well A test is darker than the standard colour of reference well B, it means that the sperm concentration is greater than 15 million/mL. Results in 2 minutes.
Overall Accuracy 99,1%

HOW TO USE IT
1) Collect the semen directly into the collection cup. Shake the semen evenly in the collection cup and leave it to stand for 15 minutes at room temperature until the semen liquefies.
2) Using the pipette provided in the foil pouch, dispense one drop of semen into test well A.
3) Once the semen is soaked into well A, add three drops of the blue staining solution to well A. Let it soak for 1-2 minutes.
4) Add two drops of the transparent washing solution to well A, and let it soak for 1-2 minutes, and then read the results immediately. Read the colour of well B, comparing the colour of A to B.

AMNIOCHECK®

AMNIOCHECK® is a CE certified rapid test for the detection of amniotic fluid leak and identification of wetness cause during pregnancy.

AMNIOCHECK® changes colours when it comes in contact with fluid of pH levels greater than or equal to 6.5 units. Amniotic fluid pH levels are greater than 6.5. The panty liner is specific to vaginal fluid, and if contaminated with urine, in the range of pH 5.5-7.0, will not give a positive result (combination of the chemical formulation and panty liner composition reduces interference from urine and therefore increase specificity). Results in 15 minutes.

HOW TO USE IT
1) Attach the panty liner to the underwear. Wear it as a normal panty liner till feel wetness (do not exceed 12 hours).
2) At the first sense of wetness, remove the panty liner and wait up to 15 minutes and check for a colour change on the panty liner. The detection panty liner is specific to vaginal fluid, and if contaminated with urine it will not give a positive result.

CoViX: a new project

PRIMA® Lab SA is pleased to announce it is now entering the molecular field with an innovative new project, targeting the most challenging disease of 2020 and molecular point-of-care demands: the CoViX kit.

The CoViX kit is a qualitative assay able to detect, at present, a single target. Unlike polymerase chain reaction (PCR), that needs rapid thermocycling, the CoViX kit utilizes a specific type of isothermal amplification method that can be performed at a constant reaction temperature, making it ideal to be carried out in a point-of-care setting.
