LIVE WEB SESSION Climatic! Pandemic! Chaotic! ... Managing supply chain risk in turbulent times

Brian Clarke, senior business development manager, Tekni-Plex Medical, will detail how global events have forced the medical supply chain to focus on mitigating risks.  Numerous factors in recent years have challenged our traditional views on globalization. These changes have increased risk and caused us to think again about an ideal supply chain strategy.  Actual case studies will be used to illustrate how forward-thinking companies have addressed these challenges.  In this lecture, hear stories about unforeseen supply interruptions and how through collaborative partnerships these can be managed and future proofed.

Medical-grade PVC compounds

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is a uniquely versatile polymer and used in a range of applications.

When combined with plasticizers through a process known as compounding, this inherently rigid polymer becomes flexible.  The formulation versatility, and its cost-performance effectiveness, meets a wide range of requirements ideal for disposable medical applications, whichever is required.

Ethylene oxide (EtO)/gamma compounds are clear medical grade formulations that provide exceptional clarity, superior heat stability, high flow characteristics which are suitable for both EtO and gamma sterilization processes. These compounds are designed to process at normal operating conditions on standard extrusion or injection molding equipment.  Available in flexible and rigid formulations.

Elastichem™ compounds are translucent (self-frosting), flexible, vinyl formulations designed to offer improvements over standard vinyl formulations such as: increased durability, enhanced physical properties, improved compression recovery and soft textured feel.  These compounds are available in 35 to 85 shore A hardness.

Flexchem™ compounds are translucent, flexible, vinyl formulations designed to offer an alternative to silicone in various applications. These compounds incorporate a non-phthalate plasticizer system for use in medical devices applications, ranging from 35 to 65 shore A hardness.

Self-frosting compounds are chemically frosted to offer a smooth, uniform, reproducible, low gloss, low friction surface on the final product.

Radiopaque compounds are available in a wide range of durometers and plasticizer types. These compounds can be customized to a specific percentage of opacity and color.

Non-phthalate and DEHP-Free formulations are dedicated to the medical market. Our team of expert chemists have developed a comprehensive portfolio of non-phthalate plasticized compounds to meet a range of customer’s cost, regulatory and performance requirements. Non-phthalate plasticizer product lines include:

  • Trimellitates
  • DEHT / DOTP
  • DINCH
  • Citrates
  • Adipates

Medical tubing

Tekni-Plex Medical features precision medical tubing solutions for a wide range of single-use medical device applications. These include intravenous (IV) administration, hemodialysis devices, insulin delivery, cardiopulmonary bypass equipment, wound drainage and much more. Our medical grade tubes are used in hospital, clinic and home settings worldwide.

We are experts in manufacturing medical grade PVC tubing in a wide variety of configurations, grades and durometers. Our solutions also extend into other polymers and coextrusions commonly used in single-use medical device applications. These include polyolefins, such as polypropylene and polyethylene, thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs) and ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA). Our coextrusions of polyolefin lined, PVC tubes are world renowned for medical gas and fluid transmission applications.

TUBING TYPES INCLUDE:
Single-lumen medical-grade PVC
Our medical grade PVC tubing offers exceptional clarity and flexibility for single-use devices.

Single-lumen thermoplastic and elastomer
Our range of polymers include polypropylene, polyethylene and thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) used for a range of single use medical devices that are not suitable for PVC or demand unique properties associated with these alternative polymers.

Multilayer PVC
Our multilayer medical tubing includes an inner polyethylene layer to resist absorption of gases or liquids, and an outer layer of PVC that is suitable for solvent bonding to other PVC devices. A unique, middle bonding layer ensures lamination of the inner and outer layer for maximum performance.

Multilayer thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU)
Our Biopath™ product line was specifically formulated to address the problems and limitations associated with existing medical grade thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) tubing.

Coextruded striped PVC
Coextruded striped PVC tubing is produced using technology that fully embeds a radiopaque or pigmented stripe into the medical tubing wall.

Co-joined PVC (paratubing)
Paratubing consists of multiple single lumen PVC tubes longitudinally joined together during extrusion. These tubes can be joined by solvent or thermal processes, and provide distinct fluid or gas transmission paths.

Multi-lumen PVC
Multi-lumen PVC tubes are available for medical device applications that require multiple flow or working channels in a single tube.

Multi-lumen thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU)
Multi-lumen TPU tubes are available for medical device applications that require multiple flow or working channels in a single tube.

Wire-embedded PVC
Power-path™ PVC medical tubing with embedded wires provides data and fluid transmission simultaneously in a single tube.

Tapered (bubble or bump) PVC
Medical grade PVC tubes that maintain a consistent wall thickness with varied inside diameters (ID) and outside diameters (OD) from one end to the other are referred to as tapered, bubble or bump tubing.

Bubble or transition
This tubing type eliminates the need for plastic connector fittings.

Medical PVC coiled
Coiled tubing provides unparalleled elongation, while maintaining consistent fluid or gas flow channels.
