RiboShield™ RNase Inhibitor is a recombinant protein that blocks the activity of a wide range of ribonucleases to reliably protect your RNA from RNase digestion.

PCR Biosystems introduces kit for reliable quantification of libraries prepared for Illumina® NGS systems

PCR Biosystems, the UK-based PCR experts, have expanded their range of specialist molecular biology kits with the introduction of NGSBIO Library Quant Kit for Illumina®. The new kit contains all the components necessary for accurate and sensitive quantification of DNA libraries prior to next generation sequencing (NGS) with Illumina platforms.

Employed for the vast majority of NGS, the Illumina system requires quantification of libraries prior to sequencing to ensure the correct amount of library is loaded into the machine. This is essential for generating the maximum amount of clustering data possible per run, saving valuable time and money. An easy-to-see blue version of the kit has also been launched, containing a blue qPCR mix for greater pipetting precision and accuracy.

NGSBIO Library Quant Kit offers consistent and reliable quantification across a wide range of sample types, concentrations, fragment sizes and GC content. The kit contains 5 DNA standards, primers specific to the P5 and P7 Illumina adapter sequences, a convenient library dilution buffer and qPCRBIO SyGreen Mix or qPCRBIO SyGreen Blue Mix. The blue qPCR mix contains a non-reactive dye to improve reaction mix visibility and is particularly useful when using small reaction volumes or white plates.

PCR Biosystems also provide a free online calculation tool to help scientists quickly and easily analyse results generated with the NGSBIO Library Quant Kit.

PCR Biosystems launches RiboShield™ RNase Inhibitor to ensure reliable RNA protection

PCR Biosystems has today launched RiboShield™ RNase Inhibitor. Already an important component of several PCR Biosystems kits, this robust and reliable RNase inhibitor is, for the first time, available as a standalone product. RiboShield™ RNase Inhibitor is a recombinant protein that blocks the activity of a wide range of ribonucleases to reliably protect RNA from RNase digestion. The inhibitor is designed for use in a variety of RNA-sensitive applications including RNA purification, cDNA synthesis, RT-PCR, RNA sequencing, and in-situ hybridization. With such techniques, the presence of even small amounts of RNase can be highly detrimental to RNA quality and experimental outcome. RiboShield™ RNase Inhibitor also complements PCR Biosystems’s range of products to support COVID-19 research and testing. 

One new application for RiboShield™ RNase Inhibitor is in saliva-based testing for the presence of SARS-CoV-2. This is currently gaining popularity as it is easy for people to collect their own samples with minimal discomfort compared with the standard nasopharyngeal swab. While the sample is simple to obtain, the digestive enzymes present in saliva make for a hostile environment for RNA. Using an RNase inhibitor is essential to provide adequate RNA protection and generate accurate test results.

The molecule binds noncovalently at a ratio of 1:1 to inhibit the activity of a range of ribonucleases, including eukaryotic RNases of the neutral type (RNases A, B and C). The inhibitor does not hinder other enzymes, such as reverse transcriptases, RNA polymerases or Taq DNA polymerase, making it compatible with many enzymatic reactions that utilise RNA. In addition, the very rapid kinetics of association to RNases guarantees immediate protection of RNA, leading to significantly better performance in applications where RNase contamination is a concern. The RiboShield™ RNase Inhibitor protein is purified from a strain of Pichia pastoris that expresses a modified human placental gene.

New leap forward for SARS-CoV-2 detection

PCR Biosystems, the UK-based PCR experts, today announced the launch of qPCRBIO Probe 1-Step Virus Detect, a high-concentration 4x RT-qPCR kit designed specifically for ultra-sensitive, high-throughput detection of viral RNA sequences, including SARS-CoV-2. The new kit, which marks the latest addition to PCR Biosystems’ specialised RT-qPCR offering, enables users to add more sample to their reactions to boost analytical sensitivity, even when working with small volume reactions. 

Consistent with their commitment to supply global healthcare systems with the critical reagents required in the fight against COVID-19, PCR Biosystems has validated the new qPCRBIO Probe 1-Step Virus Detect kit for qualitative detection of the SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid. Validation has been performed using the Charité (Germany) primer-probe sequences targeting the RdRp and E genes, as well as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (USA) recommended sequences targeting specific regions of the N gene.

The kit is ideally suited to high-throughput testing of COVID-19 clinical samples, either with laboratory developed assays or as a component of diagnostic testing kits.

PCR Biosystems continues to scale up operations to ensure ongoing availability of COVID-19 test reagents

PCR Biosystems, the UK-based PCR experts, are continuing to scale up operations to ensure the critical enzyme mix for COVID-19 tests remains available to the UK and global healthcare systems, as demand for testing rises. To meet current and upcoming requirements and ensure supply chain security, PCR Biosystems has already significantly increased – and will continue to increase – manufacture of qPCRBIO Probe 1-Step Go and all other critical reagents for rapid and sensitive RT-qPCR. 

PCR Biosystems has the capacity to manufacture enough reagent daily for 4 million reactions – which is sufficient for millions of diagnostic tests.  
Recent changes at PCR Biosystems include implementing shift-based working for production, assembly and order fulfilment, with three separate teams working seven days a week. In addition, two commercial teams have been fully trained in reserve to provide operational support if required. The company is working closely with customers, partners and suppliers, and is ready to implement further contingency plans if necessary, to ensure uninterrupted supply of PCR reagents to customers around the world.
