The Apex Laser Series is the newest addition to the premium Aspen Laser family, positioning it ahead of the market as a flagship solution in photobiomodulation (laser therapy). The Apex Tri-Wave Laser model is the world's first and only high intensity therapy laser that features three therapeutic wavelengths: 810nm, 980nm and 1064nm, each with the capability of operating at a max power of 15 watts and a combined total output of 45 watts.  Additional models are available with other power levels and wavelengths.

With this new product launch, Aspen Laser introduces the 1064nm wavelength to the US market. The 1064nm wavelength is a longer wavelength that can penetrate deeper into tissue. Clinical studies indicate that it has the least dispersion within biological tissues due to its decreased melanin absorption. The result is deep activation of metabolic processes vital for all cellular activities.

The Apex Laser Series allows healthcare practitioners a new and effective clinical tool to deliver optimal outcomes. This new model combines exclusive high average power PowerDose diodes and advanced Wavelength MultiPlexer Technology to provide the broadest range and selections of therapeutic wavelengths. Aspen Laser Systems, LLC, an emerging leader in laser therapy, announced the sponsorship and launch of a new program and website "Aspen Laser University." This new website was created and dedicated to the education and training of all healthcare professionals in the science, application, and research of Laser Therapy, now referred to a Photobiomodulation Therapy (PBMT).

"We have been involved in photomedicine for more than 30 years and, specifically, in laser therapy for the past 20 years," said Charles Vorwaller, CEO of Aspen Laser. "However, as the popularity and utilization of laser therapy continues to rise, there remains a wide variance of laser types, protocols, and theories. All of which results in a lack of agreement for a standard of care, with a general deficiency in the understanding of fundamental scientific principles behind laser therapy, and a lack of awareness of current and relevant clinical evidence, as well as the knowledge in how best to deliver such treatments."

The new website features a section for clinical studies; initially around 100 clinical studies will be listed, with more being added on a regular basis. A special focus will be on the most current studies that are utilizing Class IV therapy lasers. Another section of the website will feature resources that are informational and educational with articles, videos, and guides. "The Science of Photobiomodulation," the first video, is currently available on the site, with a similar lineup of videos to follow.

A series of online educational courses are in the working stages and are scheduled to launch January 1, 2020. The benefit for these courses is to allow 24/7 education for optimal access and usage. Each course will future content from experts in the photobiomodulation field and have a specific focus. The goal is to work with outside educational institutions for courses that qualify to provide Continuing Education Credits (CE).

Photobiomodulation has been officially defined as a form of light therapy that utilizes non-ionizing forms of light sources, including lasers, LEDs, and broadband light, in the visible and infrared spectrum. It is a nonthermal process involving endogenous chromophores eliciting photophysical (i.e., linear and nonlinear) and photochemical events at various biological scales. This process results in beneficial therapeutic outcomes, including, but not limited to, the alleviation of pain or inflammation, immunomodulation, and promotion of wound healing and tissue regeneration. The term Photobiomodulation was developed to replace other terms, such as low-level laser therapy "LLLT", cold laser therapy, high intensity laser therapy, amongst others. It takes its meaning from "photo" for "light," "bio" for "life," and "modulation" for "change."

The Dualight Phototherapy System provides new drug free treatment options with targeted UVA and UVB Therapy.  Utilizing advanced non - laser UV Phototherapy technology it effectively treats a number of dermatological conditions in the physicans office or clinic.  Weighing less than 20lbs, the product was the first targeted phototherapy system to emit either UVA or UVB bands of ultra-violet light, providing physicians with the flexibility of treating patients using either PUVA (UVA with psoralen), or UVB.

The product has two US FDA 510(k) clearances to market its desktop UV120-2 UVA/UVB phototherapy system for treating psoriasis, vitiligo, eczema, and seborrhoeic dermatitis. 

Dozens of clinical studies have shown the efficacy of UVA and UVB phototherapy on psoriasis and vitiligo. While non-targeted phototherapy has been in use for decades, targeted phototherapy is a much more recent advancement in the treatment of psoriasis. It can only be administered by a healthcare provider and is not available for home use. Blue Cross Blue Shield, one of the nation's largest health insurers considers it the frontline treatment for psoriasis. An article from the journal Therapeutics for the Clinician noted that phototherapy is the safest and most effective treatment for psoriasis.

Targeted UV phototherapy affects only unhealthy skin while sparing healthy skin, and so can be applied at higher doses over fewer treatments. Because the UV light is only administered to the affected skin, healthcare providers can administer intense UV dosages, up to several times as much as needed. This allows for more aggressive treatment of affected areas, which, in turn, leads to fewer treatments before clearing, fewer doctor visits, improved patient satisfaction and overall lower medical costs.

The DuaLight system is easy to operate and uses a handpiece to treat a specific treatment area, greatly limiting exposure to surrounding skin. It is believed that limiting exposure to non-treated areas of skin reduces the potential for skin cancers.

Many health insurance providers cover both targeted and non-targeted UV phototherapy. The type of psoriasis and severity, as diagnosed by the patient’s healthcare provider, plays a large role in health insurance reimbursement. The patient should always make certain their healthcare provider is aware of how their Quality of Life is impacted by their disease.

In response to a number of requests for a compact product, TL's biomedical and photonic engineers were able to create a unit sized for smaller medical professional offices and residential homes, giving more individuals access to the health and wellness benefits of laser therapy, such as pain free treatments with little effects and contraindications.
