Fluorescent Reference Materials - PCR, Point-of-care, ELISA & fluorimeter validation

Starna Scientifics’s Certified Reference Materials (CRM) for fluorescence spectroscopy have been specifically designed and developed for applications that require day-to-day validation and long term monitoring of fluorescence system responsivity.

Starna Fluorescent references are frequently used in the following types of system:
  • Spectroflurometer
  • ELISA fluorescent plate-readers
  • PCR systems
  • Point-of-care fluorescent based systems
Measurements on fluorescence based measurement systems are typically subject to a large number of instrumental variables. A given sample may give significantly different results when measured on different instruments even if they are of similar design.

The measurable signal of fluorescent analytes can be impacted by a number of chemical and physical effects, such as quenching or self-absorption of the fluorescence emission, which may lead to departures from the expected concentration/emission relationships outside of a narrow range. Additionally, many fluorescent materials are susceptible to photobleaching, such that detectable signal may noticeably fade with repeated measurement.

Therefore, to ensure confidence in results, a stable and consistent point of measurement reference should be used minimise or remove the effects of these variables.

Where applicable, specific properties of fluorescent CRM can be made tracible to NIST Standard Reference Materials in our ISO/IEC 17025 calibration laboratory.

All fluorescent CRM are manufactured in our ISO 17034 accredited Reference Material Production facility.

Flow cells are used for measuring samples with continuous flow or sipper systems where individual samples are aspirated into the cell. For example:

Rectangular Cells

Rectangular cells are used for most UV/VIS routine analysis. By far the most common type of cell, they have two windows clear and conform to international standard dimension. The 10mm pathlength size should fit most instruments that use rectangular cells. Available pathlengths are from 1mm to 100mm. Check with your instrument manual to see if you need an adaptor for longer pathlength cells.

Standard Rectangular cells are the most commonly cells used. The have two polished windows and a full interior width used in most instruments.
