Medical-grade PVC compounds

Tekni-Plex Healthcare compounds (formerly Colorite compounds) are used by some of the world’s foremost healthcare and medical device manufacturers. 

Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is a uniquely versatile polymer and used in a range of applications.

When combined with plasticizers through a process known as compounding, this inherently rigid polymer becomes flexible.  The formulation versatility, and its cost-performance effectiveness, meets a wide range of requirements ideal for disposable medical applications, whichever is required.

Ethylene oxide (EtO)/gamma compounds are clear medical grade formulations that provide exceptional clarity, superior heat stability, high flow characteristics which are suitable for both EtO and gamma sterilization processes. These compounds are designed to process at normal operating conditions on standard extrusion or injection molding equipment.  Available in flexible and rigid formulations.

Elastichem™ compounds are translucent (self-frosting), flexible, vinyl formulations designed to offer improvements over standard vinyl formulations such as: increased durability, enhanced physical properties, improved compression recovery and soft textured feel.  These compounds are available in 35 to 85 shore A hardness.

Flexchem™ compounds are translucent, flexible, vinyl formulations designed to offer an alternative to silicone in various applications. These compounds incorporate a non-phthalate plasticizer system for use in medical devices applications, ranging from 35 to 65 shore A hardness.

Self-frosting compounds are chemically frosted to offer a smooth, uniform, reproducible, low gloss, low friction surface on the final product.

Radiopaque compounds are available in a wide range of durometers and plasticizer types. These compounds can be customized to a specific percentage of opacity and color.

Non-phthalate and DEHP-Free formulations are dedicated to the medical market. Our team of expert chemists have developed a comprehensive portfolio of non-phthalate plasticized compounds to meet a range of customer’s cost, regulatory and performance requirements. Medical tubing

Tekni-Plex Healthcare is an expert in manufacturing medical grade PVC tubing (formerly Natvar) in a wide variety of configurations, grades and durometers. Our solutions also extend into other polymers and coextrusions commonly used in single-use medical device applications. These include polyolefins, such as polypropylene and polyethylene, thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs) and ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA). Our coextrusions of polyolefin lined, PVC tubes are world renowned for medical gas and fluid transmission applications.

Single-lumen medical-grade PVC
Our medical grade PVC tubing offers exceptional clarity and flexibility for single-use devices.

Our material selection includes PVC Compounds, Cellene TPE Compounds, as well as other materials such as polyolefins, polycarbonates, silicone, and other high performance materials. Our proven extrusion technology and advanced equipment are able to extrude to very tight tolerances and specifications.

Multi-Lumen Tubing
Our medical grade multi-lumen tubes are available for applications that require multiple flow or working channels in a single tube.

Our material selection includes PVC Compounds, Cellene TPE Compounds, as well as other materials such as polyolefins, polycarbonates, silicone, and other high performance materials. Our proven extrusion technology and equipment are able to extrude to tight tolerances and specifications. We customize the tubing to meet our customer specifications, including diameter, thickness, material, lumen geometry and rating.

Multi-Layer Tubing
Our multi-layer medical tubing includes several layers of various materials to optimize performance in the specific application.

Our multi-layer tubing is available in a variety of material constructions and can utilize various materials including PVC Compounds, Cellene TPE Compounds, polyurethane, polypropylene, EVOH, and other high performance materials. Our multilayer technology choices include tubing configurations with up to 5 layers. Most of the standard configurations include a bonding or tie layer to mitigate the risk of any delamination during tensile shock. Several of these unique product designs are patented. In addition, our extrusion process has 100% inline inspection of the tubing ID to ensure the fluid path is occlusion free.

Medical Pump Tubing
Our medical pump tubing is available in a range of materials from FlexChem SR, FlexChem, ElastiChem, Cellene TPE, silicone, as well as other high performance materials to meet the stringent demands of the application.

Wire Embedded Tubing
Power-path™ PVC medical tubing with embedded wires provides data and fluid transmission simultaneously in a single tube.
Coextruded wire embedded medical tubing is custom processed for medical devices that have power requirements with up to four coated wire/wire bundle configurations.

Some medical devices include multiple single-use tubes that are needed to supply or remove fluids, gases, suction, and/or power for the same application. A paratube bonds these multiple tubes together into a single structure which makes them much easier to manage and identify.

Tekni-Plex Healthcare is a pioneer in the field of paratubing and has technology to tightly control the tolerances on the bond strength between tubing. Having a tight process window on the tube to tube bond is the key factor to limiting process risks associated with a paratube configuration.

Our application areas of expertise include arterial drills, neurovascular applications, wound management, laprascopic surgey, ophthomology, and biopsy devices.

The Lameplast single dose & unit dose system features pre-made vials that provide a higher level of precision, functionality and quality control compared to blow/fill/seal systems. The vials offer a more attractive physical appearance (no burrs), uniform orifice/drug delivery, flexible closure design and printing capability, ability to mold with barrier materials vs. only one material, more uniform wall thickness, and reclosable features. These are all attributes that are not possible when the unit dose vial is blown, filled and sealed in one stage.
