Electroplated bonded grinding tools

With the galvanic bond, the grain is bonded to the base body by means of a galvanic coating (preferably nickel). The high holding force of the electroplated bond enables low coating thicknesses and thus a large grain protrusion. Electroplated bonded grinding tools are thus characterised by a high stock removal rate and good grinding performance.

Galvanically bonded grinding tools can be manufactured as profile grinding wheels with high precision. The basic bodies required for this are manufactured by us according to customer drawings. We can equip worn grinding tools with a new electroplated abrasive coating.

The main areas of application are the grinding of hard metals, pre-sintered ceramics, ferrites, electrocarbon, graphite, thermosets and fibre-reinforced plastics such as CFRP and GRP during rough, finish and fine grinding in dry and wet grinding.

Sintered metal bonded grinding tools

Due to the mechanical strength of the bond and the use of blocky, fracture-resistant grit types, grinding tools in sintered metal bond are considerably more wear-resistant and impact-resistant than grinding tools in ceramic or synthetic resin bond. However, the achievable metal removal rate is lower in comparison.

Diamond grinding tools in sintered metal bond are preferably used for grinding non-metallic materials such as ceramic materials, glass, etc. A speciality of EFFGEN Schleiftechnik are sintered metal bond grinding tools for machining brittle-hard materials such as quartz glass and Zerodur with and without ultrasonic support.

Resin bonded grinding tools

Resin bonded grinding tools are very abrasive and are characterised by cool, workpiece-friendly grinding with a high stock removal rate. They are preferably used for grinding hard metal, cermet, high-alloy steels and other metallic materials.

A further development of the synthetic resin bond is the metal hybrid bond. It combines the positive properties of the synthetic resin bond with the positive properties of the metallic sintered bond. Grain retention forces, wear resistance, thermal resistance and thermal conductivity are thus improved. A good dressability is nevertheless given. Thus, the performance of the grinding tool is significantly increased by the specific combination of different bond properties.

An innovation from EFFGEN Schleiftechnik is the elastic bond with high-hardness grain material. It was originally developed for polishing the relevant functional surfaces at the cutting mill. Its use improves the surface quality and reduces chipping. In addition, the cutting edge can be rounded in a targeted manner with adapted machining parameters. The bond system is also suitable for fine and polishing grinding of optical, ceramic and other metallic materials.

About us

Company portrait

At the heart of the German gemstone region is a unique system supplier of grinding and dressing tools - Effgen Lapport Schleiftechnik.

For over 100 years, Effgen Lapport Schleiftechnik has been offering its customers individual solutions for demanding grinding tasks. In the beginning, tools were developed with which gemstones could be processed more precisely and cost-effectively than had been usual up to then. Production for the company's own needs quickly turned into an attractive offer for the surrounding gemstone cutting companies. Today, Effgen Lapport Schleiftechnik serves virtually all industrial cutting applications. Outstanding customer service and competent technical support are a matter of course. The product spectrum ranges from conventional grinding tools to high-performance grinding tools and dressing tools. The comprehensive product range and the service concept thus make Effgen Lapport Schleiftechnik a system provider.

Effgen Lapport Schleiftechnik, that is more than 450 qualified, committed employees at the German production sites in Herrstein and Enkenbach-Alsenborn. Sales offices in France, Ireland and Switzerland as well as a worldwide network of representatives and trading partners ensure proximity to the customer.
